Crochet Butterfly Motif Blanket

This beautiful butterfly blanket would be a lovely addition to a young girl’s bedroom. The blanket features a three-dimensional crochet butterfly motif that I believe is made using the crocodile stitch. Annie’s Attic has at least one book available on how to make the stitch.

The soft pastels give the blanket a very youthful feel (they are all classic nursery colors). If it was crocheted in jewel tones and more motifs were added, the larger afghan would be at home in a living room.

Update (January 2013): The link where I originally found the crochet butterfly motif blanket no longer works. I will try to find another link to this blanket, and when I do I will post it here. Unfortunately this is not one of my patterns, but a lot of my readers have inquired about it. I will do my best to find it for all of you.

February 2013 Update: One of Crochet Empire’s readers found the pattern! It can be purchased at Here is the link: This is the Kindle edition; I don’t see any print versions available. Thanks, Laurie, for sending me the link!

Thanks for reading,

    Hi Erich
I have a request from my mother-in-law Lorraine to write and ask if you have a pattern for the Crochet Butterfly Motif Blanket on this page. I have tried to go to the site source: as advertised and no luck. It tells me that the site is no longer available. Could you please help us locate the pattern source if it is not you.
Lorraine does outstanding crochet work and makes all different patterns in baby and adult blankets plus much much more.
    Thank you
    Regards Bev for Lorraine.

      Hi Bev,

I have had a lot of inquiries about the crochet butterfly motif blanket. This is not one of my own patterns, unfortunately. When answering another reader’s question, I realized that the link where I found the picture is no longer available. I did a Google image search to try and find other mentions of the blanket, and was not able to find another website that featured the pattern. I suspect that this was not a commercial pattern. Since it uses the crocodile stitch, the original crocheter may nave developed the block on her own after learning how to make the stitch.

I will continue looking around for the original pattern and will post updates here. Thanks for reading,
